Auto repair in the United States is split between independent shops, dealership service departments and national chains. Independents handle most routine work (oil changes, brakes, tune-ups, check-engine diagnostics) at lower labor rates and often specialize in one make or in imports; dealers keep factory tools, software and warranty authority; chains sell speed and standard pricing on maintenance items. Most shops charge a diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and quote parts and labor separately. Certification matters: look for ASE-certified technicians and, in many states, a state repair license posted at the counter. Written estimates are required by law in most states before work begins, and you are entitled to your old parts if you ask.
Hours are published for 6 days a week. Typical hours are 9:30 amβ5 pm. It is closed on Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (650) 967-1206. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone.

Big blow from this shop. Bought a 1776cc in 2024 and only lasted 2 years. Went in again 3 months ago for a rebuild and when I unplugged the oil pan to drain the oil there was no oil strainer installed. New engine, spent close to $10k and found out 500 miles later it never had the oil strainer installed.

Joe has taken excellent care of our β77 bus for many years. He diagnosed and fixed a persistent issue that several other shops had unsuccessfully tried to repair. His pricing is always fair, communication is clear and timely, and the quality of his work consistently gives us confidence on the road.

Went there for an oil change & check upβ¦ after overpaying for an oil change, they told me I also needed new brakes for my front tires for ~$700. I went somewhere else (holland car care, would recommend) because their price estimate was far better. After going there, Iβve been informed I 1. donβt need new brakes 2. need a new axel boot (which VW & Japanese Shop missed). Holland car care showed me pictures of both parts (brake pads being fine and axel boot being broken). Way worse is that during the VW & Japanese oil change, they didnβt screw in the screw all the way, meaning my car was leaking oil this whole time and, if the screw fell out, my engine wouldβve been killed. not pleased with the VW & Japanese shop, go to Holland Car Care

Friendly, helpful, fair priced(especial in mountain view). Took my bus in for miscellaneous repairs. Fixed extra(some done at no charge) and called to verify changes in estimate.

AVOID This guy is an amateur. He charged me way over because he could. I just came into a very nice split bus as a family gift, but it needed a new engine.I bought a rebuilt engine for my bus from him via Craigslist (first mistake). In the ad he said that engine install was free with core. Not so. He decided my engine did not qualify (at this point I am at his mercy, bus is in his shop). all said, $2k for a 1600 DP, plus $3k for engine install , brakes (no hard lines) and a fuel system rebuild. way too much. I want a refund based on true cost To top it off, after the brake job he missed the fact that the rear driver side axle bearing failed prior to him replacing the rear axle seal even though I could see the leaking grease on the wheel(thought it was brake fluid)before he started the work. I picked it up, drove it home and halfway there a Good Samaritan pointed out I was spitting gear oil out of the rear ds wheel. I called Joe and he said I could make it home. I used AAA to get it back to the shop (should have been on his dime) and then he charged me another $150.00 to fix the part that he SHOULD HAVE SEEN WHEN HE DID THE BRAKES AND THE SEAL. I feel defiled. Crazy as it sounds
